Is it compulsory to drop to level 0 in my community?
Off the lift at level zero means delete any step or architectural barrier that has to get to the elevator. In order to ensure the full accessibility to housing for persons with disabilities or older than 70 years, there is compulsory by law, from December 4, 2017, to retrofit all buildings in order to ensure such access. Therefore, it shall be mandatory to get off the elevator at level zero if it is the only way to ensure the accessibility of a building. In the case that there are other alternatives, such as, for example, the existence of a ramp, it will no longer be mandatory and must have a prior agreement on the part of the board of owners.
The cost of the operation also influences the obligation of the way down to zero elevation. In this way, the work must be made mandatory if the cost is not greater than 12 regular monthly common expenses, after deducting grants or government support. In case of exceeded this amount, the interested parties can take on the excess amount. If so, lower the lift to level zero will continue to be mandatory.
